Fall: A Season of Letting Go and New Beginnings πŸ‚

September 22nd, 2026

It’s the first day of fall, which is my favorite season. I love the beginning of fall, right before it gets too cold, when the weather starts to cool, the woodstove begins to blaze, and the tea kettle starts to sing. Oh, what a cozy time of year it is!

Fall is a lovely reminder of a few things, one of them being that, in order to become new, we have to go through a process of letting go of the old. This can mean letting go of old habits, ways of thinking, speaking, and acting, or even things we have grown accustomed to that are no longer helping us become the person God is calling us to be.

As I look at the trees shedding their leaves, I am reminded that, in order for new leaves to grow, the old ones must first fall. Growth is not always a quick or easy process. Just as trees must stand through the harsh weather, enduring rain, storms, snow, and ice, we too will face difficult seasons in life. But we can stand tall, knowing that the storm will not last forever. After fall and winter comes spring, a season of new life, when the trees begin to bloom again.

What a beautiful reminder that even in the hardest seasons of our lives, God is still working.

Another reminder I see in the fall is our need for the Son. Just as leaves need sunlight to produce the chlorophyll that gives them their beautiful green color, we need Christ, the Light of the world, in our lives.

In this fallen world, it is so easy to become dismayed, but when Christ is the light in our lives, we can have a peace that surpasses all understanding. We can share that peace with others through the way we live and the testimony we give.

Without Christ, we can easily become like leaves that have lost their color, blown about by the winds of doubt, worry, and fear. But when we remain connected to Him, we can grow, bear fruit, and reflect His light to those around us.

The final reminder I see in the fall is that change can be a beautiful thing.

As I look around at the mountainsides covered in trees that are beginning to change from green to red and other beautiful colors, I am reminded that there can be beauty even in endings. The trees may be changing because their leaves are dying, yet there is still something beautiful about the process. In the same way, some of the endings we experience in life can lead us into new beginnings.

Maybe you are ending a relationship that taught you many valuable lessons. Maybe you are moving on from a job that helped shape you into the person you are today. Or perhaps you are letting go of old habits that have been hindering you as you move forward in pursuing your dreams.

Whatever you may be letting go of in this season of your life, remember that God can bring beauty even through the things we struggle to understand. Although it may not seem that way in the moment, after every sunset there is a sunrise, and after every fall there will come a spring.

So embrace every moment, and take the time to see the beauty even in the endings. As the leaves are changing, may a change take place in our hearts and minds. May we find beauty in the process, learn to trust God through every season, and remain connected to the SON.

Happy Fall, y’all! πŸ‚πŸ€Ž
