The other night, I went outside to do something without realizing how dark it actually was. I quickly ran back inside to grab a flashlight and felt relieved when I could see what was around me as I walked. Then, for some reason, I pointed the flashlight up to the sky, and the light seemed to disappear into the darkness. That moment made me stop and think.
Sometimes in life, we want to do something great, and we feel like if we’re not doing something big, we aren’t making a difference. When we look at the big picture or compare ourselves to what others are doing, it’s easy to feel like what we’re doing doesn’t matter.
But think about a flashlight. It doesn’t light up everything all at once—it shines just enough for you to see what’s in front of you and around you. You may feel like the small things you do don’t make a difference, but imagine turning off the flashlight in the dark. That’s when you realize how much of a difference it was making all along.
My prayer for you, and for me, is that God will make our lights shine brighter so that our lives reflect Him and penetrate through the darkness. I pray that our lights will inspire others to shine their light for Christ.
We live in a world full of darkness, but if we focus on drawing closer to the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, we’ll reflect His character and draw others to Him through the way we live our lives. So, no matter how small you think your light is, always shine it. You never know who might need it.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
